Joy.
There is no other way to describe the feeling of looking into your child’s eyes for the first time. The saying, “the eyes are the window to the soul” is a great way to put it.
On that early October morning when I held my son for the first time there was such a rush of pure amazement that this precious little human being was growing inside of my basketball-eske tummy this entire time. When our eyes met it was as though he immediately knew who I was and that I would still love him, even if he decided to spit-up on me every day.
I love my husband and marrying him was one of the happiest days of my life. The experience of looking into my child’s eyes for the first time was a new kind of happiness, one that can only be experienced through the gift of motherhood.
Two years later and looking into those adorable blue eyes still melts my heart. My son is not talking yet (more on this later), but often his eyes will tell me a lot. Often when he wants something he will stand in front of it and look at it until I give it to him. When his eyes are full of tears I know he is sad or bumped into something. He also does what we call a “scrunch face” when he puts his nose in the air and closes his eyes really tight with a funny grin on his face. This is him being playful. He rubs his eyes when he is tired…etc.
Who would have thought that just one part of our anatomy could tell so much? Looking into my child’s eyes reminds me that we have this unbreakable bond and we have been entwined together by these loving glances.
Simply put: God is beautifully creative, in all aspects of our lives.
